Ambassador car outings

I remember going out in the ambassador car when I was a child. Our outings as family included long drives as well as short day journeys in this car. This post is all about the ambassador car journeys in the 1970’s.

What was the car like?

A car with a genuinely comfortable seat that we don’t sink in, is the first memory that comes to my mind. It was not as if we are sitting in some hole. I could easily see outside the large windows sitting on the straightbacked seat. No aches and pains for anyone despite the long hours of travel on not-so-great roads.

This car had a large leg room. It also meant that more members of the family or friends could pile in without feeling cramped. The front seat and back seat were fixed, hence there was no chance of lack of space in the back.

The boot of the car was huge. Plenty of space to keep luggage of all sizes and shapes. A family of four or maybe ten, with a driver could travel comfortably in this car with all their luggage in the boot, sit comfortably for hours during the trip.

Even for short day journeys like visiting friends or relatives or going to the cinema was such a pleasure in this car.

The car ride used to be comfortable despite the roads, probably due to the shape, height,and weight of the vehicle.

I have gone for several trips including a 20 day trip in this car with my parents and sibling without feeling the least bit tired. Hours of happiness and fun.

Why this story?

So, why am I sharing this story today with you? I have come across a lot of people born in the 1950s to 1980s who genuinely feel that they cannot enjoy the things which they had at that time and there is a sense that they cannot be happy with the way things are today.

Yes, there have been changes over time. The ambassador car is not being widely used for some time now. It has come back in some form recently. Maybe we do not like some of the cars which are available today and look back and think of that car.

The ambassador car is one of the things which jog a memory. What is really missing is the sense of togetherness that it built over time. Today, we may possess another ambassador or any other car. But that sense of togetherness and family outings is probably missing.

This post will bring back several memories of the generation that was and present it as a memory for that generation. But it also tells today’s generation to stop, pause and think about the thought process of the erstwhile generation and what life was like at that time. Many of the youngsters are tired of the fast paced life. This channel is a window to the slower paced life of that generation.

I am hoping to give today’s generation some ideas of how to make their life simpler and happier. The older generation can look back at their memories and be happy with those memories without hankering after the past. That generation must adopt and adapt to today just like our parents and grandparents did, and be genuinely happy in the present and future.
